Volunteer Opportunities

Phoenix Day offers the following ongoing volunteer opportunities to you and/or your organization.**

  • Story telling
  • Landscaping
  • Classroom assistance ages 6 weeks through 5 years
  • Art workshops
  • Homework assistance for youth
  • Arts and Crafts facilitators
  • Sports and recreation leaders
  • Dance and music instructors

Volunteers are also needed for the following annual events*:

  • Fall Festival—October
  • Stone Soup—November
  • Health and Nutrition Fair—April
  • Education Resource Fair—May
  • Transition Day—August

** Background checks required when working with children

Drives

Volunteer groups from companies, civic organizations and other entities are encouraged to coordinate drives for Phoenix Day’s needs, which are contained in the attached Wish List.

Established monthly drives are:

  • January               Baby bottles, pacifiers, soft toys
  • February             Arts and craft supplies, markers, paints, art paper
  • March                  Shampoo, deodorant, soap
  • April                     Manipulatives , toys, board games
  • May                      Swim suits, towels, sun screen (for children of all ages)
  • June                     Arts and craft supplies, markers, paints, art paper
  • July                      Soy milk, formula, baby food
  • August                 Pencils, binders, notebooks , school supplies, backpacks
  • September          Dress-up outfits (scarves, hats, shoes, etc.)
  • October               Diapers, pull-ups and wipes
  • November           Sports equipment for children or youth
  • December           Books and puzzles

Volunteer groups are also encouraged to “create” their own theme for drives. An example would be making musical instruments or costumes and culminating the event with a parade around the playground on Cinco de Mayo or Halloween.
